Defoamers and scale inhibitors

Stable operation without foam, deposits and blockages

How do you avoid operational problems caused by foam, struvite and hard deposits in your system?

At Dankalk We supply defoamers and scale inhibitors to municipal wastewater treatment plants, industrial companies and biogas plants throughout Denmark. The products are used to prevent and remedy problems with foam, struvite and lime deposits, which can lead to downtime, increased energy consumption and high maintenance costs.

Our solutions are developed to function directly in the process and can be combined with other process chemicals such as Nutriox, iron products and polymers for optimal operation.

Foam control

Effective foam control in wastewater and biogas

Foam in tanks, reactors and basins can cause significant operational problems, including reduced capacity, overflows and unstable process operation. Foam formation typically occurs as a result of biological activity, fats, surfactants or changes in load.

Dankalk supplies foam defoamers that effectively reduce foam formation without disrupting the biological process.

Advantages of defoamers

  • Fast and effective foam reduction
  • Prevents overflows and process disruptions
  • Can be dosed precisely as needed
  • Compatible with biological processes
  • Reduces the need for manual intervention

Foam suppressants can be used both acutely and preventively and are often part of an overall operation and maintenance program.

Struvite and precipitates

Struvite – effective prevention and removal of plaque

How can you avoid operational problems caused by struvite and other hard precipitates – and which solutions work best in Danish wastewater treatment plants and biogas plants?

Struvite is a crystalline salt consisting of magnesium, ammonium and phosphate. In wastewater and biogas plants, struvite often appears as a hard and unwanted coating in pipes, pumps, tanks and filters.

When struvite and calcium precipitate in the system, it can lead to:

  • Clogging of pipes and valves
  • Hard coatings in tanks, reactors and filters
  • Increased pressure and reduced capacity
  • Increased energy consumption and maintenance
  • Reduced efficiency in the cleaning process

In sand and media filters, struvite can also cause cementation , where the filter material loses its function.

Struvite prevention with plaque inhibitors

In biogas plants and wastewater treatment plants, struvite is formed when phosphorus, ammonium and magnesium meet under the right chemical conditions. Dankalk offers scale inhibitors that prevent the crystals from growing and bonding to the plant’s surfaces.

How do scale inhibitors work?

  • Forms a protective film around particles
  • Prevents crystallization of struvite and lime
  • Reduces the risk of hard deposits
  • Extends the life of pipes, pumps and tanks

Scale inhibitors are added directly into the process and have a preventive effect, stopping problems before they occur.

Once struvite has formed, mechanical removal can be both time-consuming and costly.

Dankalk delivers chemical solutions that effectively dissolve existing struvite and lime deposits without damaging the plant’s materials.

Benefits of chemical removal

  • Controlled and effective solution
  • Gentle on tanks, pipes and filter material
  • Reduces the need for manual cleaning
  • Can be combined with preventive scale inhibitors

The combination of prevention and periodic cleaning ensures continuous operation and reduces the risk of unforeseen downtime.
