Flue gas cleaning with hydrated lime – an effective and environmentally friendly solution
Danish expertise in flue gas cleaning and neutralization
How do you ensure effective and environmentally friendly flue gas cleaning – and which type of lime gives the best results in your process?
At Dankalk, we help power plants, incineration plants and industrial companies throughout Denmark to clean flue gases of environmentally harmful substances. We develop and supply lime-based absorbents, including Danchalk and hydrated lime , which are used for neutralizing acid components, reducing sulfur compounds and removing unwanted substances in the flue gas.
Effective flue gas cleaning with Danchalk
Danchalk is a highly reactive lime product used for the effective neutralization of acidic gases such as sulfur dioxide (SO₂), hydrogen chloride (HCl) and hydrogen fluoride (HF) in flue gas.
Thanks to its high reactivity, Danchalk can in many cases significantly reduce the consumption of additives such as caustic soda – often by up to 70%. This provides both economic and environmental benefits.
Advantages of Danchalk for flue gas cleaning
- High reactivity and effective neutralization of acid gases
- Significant reduction in consumption of caustic soda
- Stable and controllable pH regulation
- Low consumption per ton of treated flue gas
- Danish-made product with consistent quality
Danchalk is used in dry, semi-dry and wet flue gas cleaning systems and can be adapted to the individual process. The high purity and uniform particle size contribute to stable operation and low residue levels.

Hydrated lime for flue gas cleaning
Hydrated lime is used in flue gas cleaning where rapid neutralization and effective binding are required. of acidic components. The lime is added directly to the flue gas or in a liquid phase, where it reacts with the harmful compounds and forms solid salts, which can subsequently be collected.
Hydrated lime is particularly suitable for plants and processes with varying loads and high requirements for reaction time.
Hydrated lime is typically used in:
- Waste incineration plant
- Combined heat and power plants
- Biomass and energy plants
- Industrial companies with combustion processes
The high alkaline effect makes hydrated lime an obvious choice when fast and precise pH control is desired in flue gas cleaning.
Flue gas cleaning and wastewater treatment
Wet flue gas cleaning processes produce scrubber or rinse water containing salts, metals and other pollutants. This stream requires post-treatment before discharge or recycling.
At Dankalk, we supply both lime products and process chemicals for this post-treatment and can help with:
- pH regulation with hydrated lime and environmental lime
- Precipitation of heavy metals and phosphorus
- Chemicals for polishing and post-cleaning of rinse water
- Technical advice on process optimization and dosing
By combining effective flue gas cleaning with correct wastewater treatment, it is ensured that the plant complies with environmental requirements – both for air and water.
How does flue gas cleaning work in practice?
The flue gas is passed through a purification system where lime-based products are added to neutralize acid gases and remove pollutants.
- In dry systems, the lime is added directly to the gas stream
- In wet systems, lime is used in a liquid phase
The used lime is subsequently removed as a residual product (e.g. gypsum or salts), which is handled or recycled depending on the type of plant.
