Struvite that stops functioning and creates deposits
Solution based on over 100 years of experience and documented effectiveness
Do you have struvite in your plant, where pipes, pumps or filters are starting to clog? Struvite occurs in both wastewater and biogas, where deposits quickly become stuck and reduce capacity. At Dankalk K/S, we work as a lime plant with solutions that reduce the risk of struvite deposits, so that clogging, wear and capacity loss can be limited. Struvite deposits not only reduce flow, they also increase system pressure, wear equipment, and require repeated stops for cleaning. Therefore, both deposit prevention and deposit removal are essential for stable plant operation.
5 benefits when you choose our struvite control
Struvite requires quick action when deposits begin to clog pipes, reduce flow and increase the strain on pumps, filters and tanks. This is where the difference becomes apparent:
- Over 100 years of experience with raw materials and chemistry for technical plants
- Products developed for both prevention and removal of struvite deposits
- Solutions used in wastewater and biogas with a focus on stable operation
- Advice based on your system and your load
- Products that keep pipes, tanks and filters free of deposits
When struvite is dealt with early, the risk of clogging, increased energy consumption and repeated cleaning stops is reduced.

Struvite that clogs pipes and reduces capacity
Struvite forms hard deposits in pipes, valves and tanks. In biogas it typically occurs in reactors and downstream systems, while in wastewater it is often seen in pressure lines and pumps.
The deposits can clog pipes and valves, settle in tanks and filters, and reduce the capacity of the system. When struvite is allowed to grow, the pressure in the system increases, and the pumps work harder to maintain flow.
This means less flow and greater strain on the installations. In practice, this leads to more stops and higher maintenance.
Preventing struvite before it sets in
In biogas and wastewater plants, struvite can be stopped before it binds to surfaces. Dankalk K/S supplies scale inhibitors that keep the crystals in suspension so they do not form deposits.
Scale inhibitors are used directly in the process, helping to prevent struvite from binding to pipes and tanks, reducing the risk of clogging, repeated cleaning and downtime in high-load plants.
Fouling prevention reduces the risk of struvite crystals settling on surfaces, helping biogas plants and wastewater systems maintain flow, capacity and longer operating intervals.
Removal of struvite deposits in operation
When struvite has already set in, a solution is required that can dissolve the deposits without damaging the equipment. Dankalk K/S supplies products that specifically dissolve both struvite and lime deposits.
Chemical removal can dissolve tough deposits, improve flow in pipes and filters, and reduce the need for manual cleaning.
By combining the removal of deposits with ongoing prevention, the system is kept in operation without recurring problems.
Struvite in biogas and wastewater reduces flow and capacity
Struvite occurs in both biogas and wastewater, where the composition of phosphate, ammonium and magnesium creates the same challenges. In wastewater plants, ferric chloride can also be relevant when phosphorus needs to be chemically bound, so that phosphate levels, deposits and treatment requirements are assessed in the same operational context.
Preventing deposits limits new deposits, while removing deposits frees pipes, pumps and filters where struvite has already settled. This is especially true at high loads, where problems grow quickly.
FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions about Struvite
What is struvite?
Where does phosphate come from in wastewater?
Phosphate comes from households, industry and biological processes. It is found in wastewater from cleaning, food and production, among other things.
