Flue gas cleaning with hydrated lime

Flue gas cleaning and incinerators

Eco-friendly absorbers for flue gas cleaning

Dankalk K/S has developed a range of environmentally friendly absorbents for flue gas cleaning in power plants. The flue gas from power plants is currently cleaned by blowing lime or hydrated lime into the flue gas, or by using a wet scrubber and subsequently cleaning the water with lime and precipitation chemicals.

Reduce the consumption of sodium lye

This is a great opportunity to use danchalk®, as it has a higher reactivity than similar products on the market.

Using danchalk®, trials have shown that you can reduce the consumption of sodium hydroxide solution by up to 70%.

Absorbents for flue gas cleaning

Flue gas cleaning utilizes the reactivity and surface area of the absorbents to move pollutants and heavy metals from the gas into a liquid or solid medium. Dankalk mainly sells danchalk® or hydrated lime for flue gas cleaning. Lime products are particularly competitive as their high reactivity makes them cost-effective, while the lime raises the pH of the process, saving lye in the treatment of the acidic flue gas. If you want to know more about our products, you can contact our consultants – their details can be found under the advice tab.

Chemistry for wastewater from flue gas cleaning

In addition to absorbers for the flue gas itself, Dankalk can also assist with products for cleaning scrubber and rinse water. The wastewater from flue gas cleaning must comply with requirements for a wide range of environmentally harmful substances. We supply chemistry and auxiliary materials for the cleaning process.

Polymer

Precipitation of particles

Particles in the wastewater are often removed with a belt filter. Before the particles can be removed, there is a need to bind the particles together in larger flocks. This is often done with polymer. Dankalk has extensive experience in the field and a wide range of polymer products suitable for this process. We currently supply polymer to a wide range of incineration plants and have extensive experience in testing and selecting the right products.

Precipitation chemicals

Improved precipitation

Precipitation chemicals are in some cases necessary to form good particles in cooperation with polymer. The chemicals also help to form better flocks and precipitate more problematic substances. Dankalk sells both iron and aluminum-based precipitation products and we are happy to help test and recommend suitable products.

Precipitation of heavy metals requires control of chemical dosage and pH. Dankalk is ready with guidance and professional sparring. You can find the relevant employees under the advice tab.

Foam dampers

Challenges with foaming?

Some facilities experience challenges with foaming from various reactors and scrubbers in particular. The foam may inhibit the process or periodically overflow the tank, causing a nuisance to staff. With Dankalk defoamers, you can control foaming with small doses. Specialty products usually perform better than traditional oil or soap products as they are developed specifically for the purpose. The specialty products are more effective and you can often save on the required application rate. We’re happy to come and test our portfolio of defoamers to find the right solution for you.

Coating inhibitors

Save time on maintenance and extend the life of your sand filter

Struvite and lime deposits can clog pipes and “cement” sand filters over time. Coatings increase the pressure required in pipe systems and can challenge the capacity of the cleaning process. In addition, some deposits can bind to the filter material in sand filters, causing the filter to clog and become hard. You can save your system from many of these problems by dosing a coating inhibitor. Coating inhibitors attach to the problematic particles and prevent them from binding to various surfaces. This also means you won’t experience hard deposits forming on the inside of tanks and containers. This saves you valuable maintenance time, replacement of filter materials and clogged pipes.

Dankalk also sells products that can remove stubborn coatings.

Active fun

Activated carbon for wastewater and gas polishing

Activated carbon is used for polishing wastewater, biogas and flue gases. Wastewater from wastewater treatment plants, industrial companies and biogas plants is often filtered with activated carbon to remove persistent components (e.g. organic micropollutants). It can also be used for filtering biogas or flue gases from incineration plants and industries in general, where the purpose is to clean the gas of small amounts of critical substances (e.g. hydrogen sulphide).
